Boer Goats

Our beautiful little herd of Boer goats are our newest arrivals here at Cilwg. Joining us in June 2019, they have settled in well and made themselves very much at home - much to the dismay of a few of our fences!

The Boer is a fantastic meat goat - in fact, it's the only breed of goat that is bred specifically for meat - and we can't wait to be able to share the delights of this special meat with our customers - around the end of 2020/beginning of 2021.

As the Boer goat was developed in South Africa, we decided to give our breeding herd African names. The word 'boer' comes from the Afrikaans, meaning 'farmer'. As a point of interest, Ryan actually knew a fair bit of Afrikaans at one time.

Our girls are:

  • Alika - most beautiful
  • Tamala - dark tree
  • Lulu - pearl
  • Asha - lively
  • Zemora - one who knows the way
  • Mandisa - sweetness
  • Zola - peaceful

Whilst our boy is Jango - brave warrior.
